EPDM weather seal handles salt and UV better than most alternatives, but it still degrades from the exposed edge inward. A seal can look serviceable across the face while the sealing edge has gone hard and stopped making contact. Brush seal closes the irregular gaps that a compression seal cannot, which matters on older frames that have shifted.
