Rolling hangar door operators drive the door through a wheel, and that wheel takes more abuse than any other single component on the door. We stock MITCO solid solver tires with mounted rims and the axle assemblies that drive them, plus custom fabrication when your operator takes something we do not carry.

Count the lugs before you order. Both wheels use a 3.75 in. rim and both stand 18 in. tall, but one is 5-lug and one is 4-lug. The lug count and tread width are what separate them.
Solid tires on a hangar door operator
Solid solver tires do not go flat, which matters on a door that may sit unused for weeks and then needs to move on demand. They also hold their profile under the sustained static load of a parked door, where a pneumatic tire would develop a flat spot. The tradeoff is a harsher ride over track debris, so keeping the running surface clear extends the life of both the tire and the axle assembly.
Wheel axle assemblies
The axle assembly is what the operator turns to drive the wheel and move the door. It is the part that takes the drive load every cycle, and on a high-cycle door it is a wear item rather than a lifetime component. We custom fabricate axle assemblies to specification, which is often the only route on an older operator where the original part is long out of production. Send us the old assembly or a dimensioned photo and we will quote a replacement.
Hangar door wheels: common questions
How do I tell which wheel my operator takes?
Start with the lug count and the tread width. Both of our solid solver wheels use a 3.75 in. rim and stand 18 in. tall, but one is 4-lug and one is 5-lug. Count the lugs on the old wheel and measure across the tread.
Why solid tires instead of pneumatic?
A solid tire does not go flat and does not develop a flat spot from sitting under a parked door for weeks at a time. On a door that is used intermittently, that reliability outweighs the softer ride of a pneumatic.
Can you build an axle assembly for an older operator?
Often, yes. We custom fabricate axle assemblies to specification. Send the old assembly or a dimensioned photo and we will quote a replacement.
My door drags. Is the wheel worn out?
Check the track first. Grit and debris packed into the running surface cause dragging far more often than a worn wheel does. If the track is clear and the door still drags, look at the wheel and the bearings next.
