Casters

The most common ordering mistake on a rolling hangar door caster is buying the wheel when you needed the assembly, or the reverse. We stock caster assemblies and standalone caster wheels from 6 in. to 24 in. in diameter, in rail sizes from 20 lb to 60 lb, with tread widths from 1 7/16 in. to 2 1/2 in. Custom fabrication is available for sizes we do not stock.

Caster assembly or caster wheel

When in doubt, order the assembly. A cracked housing or seized bearing will destroy a new wheel quickly, and the assembly saves you the teardown either way.

Three measurements have to match

Diameter sets the ride height and has to match what the door was built for. Rail size refers to the rail the caster runs on, rated in pounds per yard, and running the wrong profile chews up both the wheel and the rail. Tread width is the contact surface across the wheel face. Measure all three from the old caster, or photograph it next to a tape measure and we will confirm the size before you order.

V-groove, double flanged, and retro wheel

V-groove casters track in a V-shaped rail and self-center as the door travels. Double flanged casters carry a lip on both sides of the tread to capture the rail, which is the choice where lateral movement is a concern. Retro wheel casters, listed as RW, are retrofit designs for replacing worn assemblies on older doors where the original part is no longer made. The profile of your old wheel will tell you which style the door uses.
